Good-Luck Healthy Cheesy Greens and Farro

New Years Healthy Cheesy Greens with Farro | by My Utensil Crock

Happy New Year! In law school in Virginia, officially the South, I learned that eating black-eyed peas for the new year was supposed to bring good luck. Huh! In briefly researching for this blog post, I further learned that Sephardic Jews have been eating black-eyed peas for the new year as early as the year 500! Double huh! A few years ... view more

Farmers Market Spring Breakfast Egg Bake

Farmers Market Spring Breakfast Egg Bake ~ by My Utensil Crock

When I visited San Francisco in April, my friend BG and I took a long walk to the Ferry Building's farmers market. BG enjoys fresh, delicious, healthy food as much as anyone, and she asked me a question that - surprisingly to me - stumped me. "What do you buy when you go to farmers markets?" ... Um... This was not a trick question, but ... view more

Classic Spinach Artichoke Dip

Classic Spinach and Artichoke Dip ~ by My Utensil Crock

This is a very special "Snow Day Snacks" - WIND DAY edition. There was much hype this week about impending high winds today. The forecast was no joke: gusts up to 70 MPH. The news started stressing that the weather would be hazardous during the morning commute, and last night one of the more rural school systems canceled school for today.  These ... view more

Realized quite late in the day that I needed to ba Realized quite late in the day that I needed to bake something with Farmer’s Market ingredients for this month’s work baking club (“No rules, but a highly regimented agenda.”) I knew I had kale in the fridge from last week’s @freshfarmdc market and I found a savory quick bread recipe to use it. BONUS, this recipe uses applesauce and nonfat Greek yogurt instead of oil or butter, so I got to use my @mickleys_orchard_and_farm_mkt honeycrisp applesauce, also from the farmer’s market. This was *so* good. Recipe from @withsaltandwit (guilt free savory prosciutto, kale & Parmesan bread - did not use prosciutto, added a little garlic powder but otherwise followed the recipe) #farmersmarket #bakingclub #dcfarmersmarket

These pictures are him Friday night, snatching ground filet burger out of my hand. In honor of Tazz, please spoil your animal, yourself, someone else, someone else’s animal, or all of the above, this week or forever. Take all the pictures, feel all the feels, and eat all the snacks. I will miss you every day, Tazewell.
