There are a number of herbs and spices in this recipe, but if you keep them all in the same corner of your pantry, or mix the dry ingredients in advance, it is a cinch to throw together.
Ingredients
  • 1 small can tomato paste (6 oz)
  • 6 ounces very warm water (warm enough to loosen up the tomato paste)
  • 3 T grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 t minced garlic
  • 2 T honey
  • ¾ t onion powder
  • ¼ t dried oregano
  • ¼ t dried marjoram
  • ¼ t dried basil
  • ¼ t ground black pepper
  • ⅛ t cayenne pepper
  • ⅛ t dried red pepper flakes
Instructions
  1. In a 4-cup bowl, mix the tomato paste with the warm water. {I use a small silicone spatula to get the paste out of the can, and then I fill the same can with water to reach 6 ounces and stir it together using the same spatula.}
  2. Stir until incorporated.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until incorporated.
  4. Cover and let sit in the refrigerator until you are ready to spread on dough or use for dipping - just stir it well if it sets while cooling.
